It was a Wednesday morning tee time, at one of the most popular public courses in the Philadelphia area. Located just about 40 minutes from center city, The Golf Course at Glen Mills embodies intense elevation changes and large, multi-tiered greens. Here are my favorite moments on the course throughout the day.

The first two holes are generally open as you work your way out from the clubhouse into the hills and valleys of Glen Mills. It has that Southeastern Pennsylvania rolling topography that wakes you up like a shot of espresso. Be ready to play the slopes here or be penalized.

After the front 9, I understood what people liked about this golf course. It required imagination. Without it, you are left with difficult situations.

You must be creative with your shots to have a successful score.

Approach shots are able to be run up towards the green, but that will require laser-like accuracy and patience of playing for up and down almost every hole.

16 was playing about 180 with wind playing against us from the right hand side. I hit a low-ish 6 iron to about 20 feet, leaving a very tricky uphill double breaker. I would two putt from there, grateful for a Par.

I really liked the grounds. The conditions were immaculate for it being early Spring. Challenges would come from all angles so I think after a few times around the course, I will be more comfortable and know where to miss it. Overall, this place is stout, but extremely delightful.
